Analyse processes of encoding storage and retrieval in

Answer ALL of the questions:

1) Evaluate the Multi-store Model of Memory and discuss how one other Model (e.g. Levels of processing, Working Memory) has improved upon it with reference to concepts of encoding, storage and retrieval

2) Read the following scenario and then answer the questions:

Colin is getting ready to come to college on a Monday morning and is running late. He is about to leave the house when remembers that he has left his mobile phone up-stairs in the bedroom. He walks up-stairs, on the way up he meets his wife who asks him if he can remember the number for the plumber. Colin thinks about it but cannot recall the number. When Colin reaches the bedroom he cannot remember what he came up for.

a) Using at least two (2) theories of Forgetting, discuss why Colin has forgotten what he went up-stairs for

b) Compare two (2) theories of forgetting that you have discussed above ensuring that you include at least 2 similarities and 2 differences

c) Suggest how Colin's memory might be improved using at least two (2) mnemonic techniques with reference to examples and evidence

Learning Outcomes:

You should ensure that your assignment contains all of the following learning outcomes:

1.1 Analyse processes of encoding, storage and retrieval in relation to human memory with reference to evidence.

1.2 Evaluate models of human memory with reference to function.

2.1 Analyse explanations of forgetting, for example, decay, displacement, interference and context dependency, with reference to evidence.

2.2 Compare and contrast these explanations with reference to research evidence.

3.1 Evaluate mnemonic techniques (for example method of loci, pegwords) with reference to examples or evidence.
