Analogies to fortune and debts


In 628 AD this mathematician and astronomer wrote Brahmasphutuaiddhanta (The Opening of Universe). In this work he first introduced idea of zero by considering what takes place when number is subtracted from itself. He made analogies to fortune and debts to better discuss his idea of zero. Some of his analogies were: "A debt minus zero is a debt. A fortune minus zero is a fortune. Zero minus zero is zero. A debt subtracted from zero is a fortune." Who was he?
