i.e. is there a difference between r⁺s⁺ vs. r⁺r s⁺s or are these the same but just written in a short form?

i.e. X^rY S⁺S⁺ x X^r+X^r+ S S vs X^r S⁺ X^r+ S

Also, do you always have to write the notation for an individual as something in a similar format to r⁺s/r⁺s or are there exceptions?
