Experimental setup and methodology

The aim of the project is based on an experiment set up that is based on compering C35 Concrete strength & workability with different percentage of Marble powder wests. This can only be achieved through determining the influence of partial replacement of sand with marble powder, finding out the percentage of marble powder replaced in concrete that makes the strength of the concrete maximum, comparing with the compressive and tensile strength of ordinary concrete and obtaining the characteristic of waste marble powder in concrete. The experiment will apply basically mix design C35 concrete. The required testing methods include stump test, compressive strength test and split tensile strength test. The experiments conducted including the sieve analysis, specific gravity, mix design, slump test and compressive strength.

Experimental Procedures and tasks

The sample of raw materials are put in the oven for 24 hours and then taken and then sieved with 20 mm and 10 mm sieve sizes and next measured in terms of the weight for each of the materials sieved. This provided information about the sieve analysis, the procedures required for this experiment. The tools used including sieves and oven and also information about the different sizes of aggregates that can be used in construction. The weight of sample of raw materials are measured under dry condition and also when it is under SSD condition. The tools required including iron trays, the different types of aggregates with different specific gravity values which indicate that an increase of the value of specific gravity indicates decrease the size of the aggregates.

There was an identification of the procedures to be followed in mixing the concrete. The first step was to put the coarse aggregates, then fine aggregates and cement, finally add water continuously as the mixing process continues.(i.e. cement: fine aggregates: coarse aggregates),It was found that water should be added as per the water cement ratio which will be given in terms of weight. The tools used in mixing the concrete including mixers and about the water to be added while mixing the concrete.

A slump test of the fresh concrete was conducted to help in arranging the equipment and instruments required through establishing the steps need to be followed while conducting slump test. The fresh concrete was put in to the cone and was compacted very well to remove the voids in it and then remove the slump cone slowly in counting 10 seconds. After that I measure the height reduced in concrete by comparing with the height of the cone. The tools required including slump cone were identified. The results indicate that the workability/ consistency of the fresh concrete also keep on increasing. Also, three types of shapes can be observed after removing the cone including true slump, shear slump and collapse slump.

The preparing the concrete as per the design mix needed was done through putting the fresh concrete into the moulds and compact , leveling the top of the moulds by putting mortar on it and letting the cube set for a period of 24 hours. Following that, the cubes were put into the water for different time periods and after these periods they were taken out the cube and let were dried for some time. Finally auto tests in compacting machine were done for measuring the maximum compressive force that can be attained by attained by this cube.
