About myself approx 300 words summarise information about

You are required to develop a Management Skills Learning and Development Action Plan that describes the skills, resources, and other requirements you'll need to further your career aspirations and development.

In this plan we ask you to lay out your career goals and career opportunities as well as your learning and development plans. The action plan should be in four (4) parts, as outlined below. The report will evaluate the appropriateness of your learning goals, how well you justify your plan using course theories and how closely your plan links to your analysis.

In other words we are assessing your ability to assess the strengths and weaknesses of your skills as well as your ability to develop a plan to improve your management skills. You are also required to invite a mentor (peer or more experienced employee) to assist with this development plan and complete the self-assessment surveys on the management skill areas you choose to develop in this plan.

Compare the differences between your self-assessment and the assessment of relevant other(s). You may also want to include your mentor in determining how you will measure the success of your action plans.

1. Career Goal and Career Opportunities (approx. 300 words) Where are you now and where do you want to be in 3-5 years' time? What are the opportunities for you out there in the marketplace?

2. About Myself (approx. 300 words) Summarise information about yourself that was made evident during this course, and can contribute to future career aspirations e.g. learning style, personality type, values.

3. Current Skills Inventory (approx. 300 words) List your three main skill strengths and three skills that need improvement. Strengths can be defined as areas in which you can make an immediate impact on your role as manager, with little or no improvement required. Weaknesses can be defined as those job-related areas in which you require significant skills development and focus. You might want to ask yourself: What are my strengths so that I can take advantage of the opportunities? What's stopping me? What skills do I need to learn? Remember to substantiate your skill areas using relevant literature otherwise it sounds like manager's comment.

4. Learning Goals and Action Plans (approx. 1100 words) As a result of undergoing a skills inventory what are your main goals that will improve your three skills? This is where you also draw on articles and texts to discuss the insights you have obtained from the concepts to understand how you may change your behaviour and be more effective in the future. Your learning goals need to be SMART (specific, measurable, action-oriented, realistic and time bound).

Develop some strategies and action plans to improve the three skills that will achieve your career goals. What are the barriers you're likely to encounter to achieve your career and learning goals? How are you going to achieve your goals? What resources will you require? Whose support will you need? What must be done? By whom? By when? (Remember to substantiate your plans, citing relevant literature).

Use the following layout for each of the three skills that you want to improve upon:

  • Skill Area:
  • Broad Goal:
  • SMART Goal:
  • Strategies and Action Plans (around 6 strategies per goal).
