2. The oil sands of Alberta, Canada contain commercially viable quantities of oil. The
average properties of the oil sands are as follows:
- Initial bulk density = 2.06 Mg/m3
- Initial porosity = 0.35
- Oil saturation = 70% of pore volume
- Specific gravity of soil solids = 2.68
- Specific gravity of oil = 0.86
- Note: assume pore contain only oil and water (no air)
