1 260 watts of electrical power consumption 2 external

The following is the relevant information: 1. 260 watts of electrical power consumption. 2. External temperature (cooling air inlet temperature) = 77 degrees Fahrenheit 3. Safety (touching) specification (cooling air outlet temperature) = 100 degrees Fahrenheit 4. 4" x 18" cooling duct cross section 5. Heat exchanger causes a "back pressure" of 5 inches of water. Size the cooling fan: Find how much air, in cubic ft/min, must pass over the heat exchanger to remove the 260 watts by working the following parts: a.) In this part divide the process up into two operations. First the operation of the fan, which pulls air from the shuttle cabin into the 4" x18" cooling duct. The second operation removes the heat from the Plant Growth Unit and exhaust the air back into the shuttle cabin. Draw and appropriately label each of two operations. b.) Solve the appropriate energy balances for each operation either individually or simultaneously in order to size the fan (obtain the cubic ft/min rating required). c.) What is the minimum power rating required for the fan (-Ws) in watts? HINT-Can you assume that air is incompressible in the First Operation of the fan pulling the air from the shuttle cabin into the cooling duct? If your answer is yes, prove it by calculating the % change in air density during the first operation and use the mechanical energy balance equation.
