Varix refers to the abnormal enlargement of the veins. Varices happens while the extreme pressure against the normal blood flux results in the enlargement of veins and therefore the insufficient functioning of its valves. Varices are generally more common in veins of inferior limbs as the fluid column above these vessels is usually higher.
