Branchiae, also called as gills, are small parts of richly vascularised tissues which may be external or internal to the body and in direct contact with surrounding water. Gills are the organs which perform the function of gas exchange in the aquatic annelids, crustaceans, amphibian larvae like, tadpoles and fishes.
