This is the anterior enlarged portion of the wind pipe, build up of cartilage that is, thyroid, cricoids and arytenoids, and so on. The enlarged thyroid cartilage is termed as Adam’s apple. A cartilaginous muscular flap, the epiglottis is joined to the top of the thyroid cartilage. It can close the glottis as swallowing food. Vocal cords are stretched among thyroid and arytenoids cartilages. Vibrations of vocal cords generate sound. Rima glottidis is the opening among the cords.
