What is a Group Signature?

The group signature, commenced by Chaum and van Heijst, provides any member of the group to digitally sign the document in a way such which a verifier can confirm that it came from the group, but doesn’t know which individual in group signed the document. The protocol provides for the identity of signer to be discovered, in case of disputes, through the designated group authority which has some auxiliary information. Unfortunately, each time a member of group signs a document, the new key pair has to be created for the signer. The generation of new key pairs causes length of both group members' secret keys and designated authority's auxiliary information to grow. This be inclined to cause the scheme to become unwieldy when employed by a group to sign various messages or when employed for an extended period of time. Some improvements have been made in efficiency of this scheme.
