Peristalsis refers to the process of synchronized contractions of muscular wall of digestive tube. Peristaltic movements can occur from oesophagus until and involving the bowels. Peristaltic movements are involuntary and they perform the function of moving and mixing the food along with the digestive tube. In Peristaltic movement insufficiency, such as, if there is any injuries of innervation of muscular wall of the digestive tube caused due to the Chagas’ disease, may lead to interruption of food traffic within the bowels and to severe the clinical consequences such as megacolon which is abnormal enlargement of the colon and megaesophagus which is enlargement of esophagus.
