Urea is more water-soluble as compared to the uric acid which is an almost insoluble substance. Urea is also highly toxic. However, both are less toxic as compared to the ammonia. Some invertebrates, chondrichthian fishes, adult amphibians and mammals are generally ureotelic whereas birds, reptiles and most arthropods are generally uricotelic.
