Urea is much water-soluble than uric acid (a nearly insoluble substance). Urea is as well more toxic. Both though are less toxic than ammonia. Some invertebrates, adult amphibians chondrichthian fishes, and mammals are ureotelic. Reptiles, birds and mainly arthropods are uricotelic.
