Messenger RNA or mRNA, transfer RNA or tRNA, and ribosomal RNA or rRNA, are the three main kinds of RNA.

The newly made RNA molecule, a precursor of mRNA, is termed as heterogeneous RNA (or hnRNA). The heterogeneous RNA bears parts termed as introns and portions termed as exons. The hnRNA is processed in lots of chemical steps, introns are eliminated, and mRNA is formed only of exons that are the biologically active nucleotide sequences.
