Before powering on FPGA, configuration data is stored externally in a PROM or some another non-volatile medium either on or off the board. Subsequent to applying power, the configuration data is written to FPGA by using any of five various modes: Master Parallel, Slave Parallel, Master Serial, Slave Serial and the Boundary Scan (JTAG). The Master and Slave Parallel modes choosing pins can be set to choose the mode.
