Configuration data is stored externally inside PROM or any other non-volatile medium either on or off the board, before powering on the FPGA. After utilizing power, configuration data is written to the FPGA with the help of any of the five various modes: Master Serial, Slave Parallel Slave Serial, Master Parallel, and the Boundary Scan (JTAG), Master and Slave Parallel modes.
