How hemophilia is treated? Why hemophilia is rare in the females?
Expert
Hemophilia is treated medically with the administration of factor VIII, in case of hemophilia A, or of factor IX, in case of hemophilia B, through the blood or fresh frozen plasma transfusions. Hemophilia, A or B, is an X-linked recessive inheritance and for girl to be hemophilic it is essential for both of her X chromosomes to get affected while boys, which have only one X chromosome, get more easily affected. A girl having only one affected chromosome is not affected with the disease as normal gene of the unaffected other X chromosome generates the clotting factor.
