The rod cells in eyes are very sensitive to light and are responsible for the vision in dim light. This is termed as scotopic vision.

Cones as well have visual pigments made up of retinene combined with a protein opsin (Photopsin) cones functions in bright light and the system encompasses more acuity and can perceive colors (that is, Photopic vision).
