2G is short form of second-generation wireless telephone technology. The Second Generation (2G) cellular telecom networks were commercially initiated on the GSM standard in1991 in Finland. Three major benefits of 2G networks over their predecessors were that phone conversations were digitally encrypted, 2G systems were more efficient on the spectrum that allowing far greater mobile phone penetration levels whereas 2G introduced data services for mobile which is starting with (SMS) text messages.
