What do you mean by the term Protocol Data Unit?

The data unit in LLC level is termed as the protocol data unit (PDU). The PDU includes of four fields a destination service access point (DSAP), a source service access point (SSAP), control field and an information field. DSAP and SSAP are addresses employed by the LLC to recognize the protocol stacks on the receiving and sending machines which are producing and by using the data. The control field specifies whether the PDU frame is an information frame (I-frame) or a supervisory frame (S-frame) or an unnumbered frame (U-frame).
Beaconing: It is an FDDI frame or Token Ring frame which points to serious trouble with the ring, like a broken cable. The beacon frame brings the address of the station considered to be down.
