The properties of the Presentation layer are as described below:

a) Translation: Various computers use various encoding system, this layer is responsible for interoperability among such different encoding methods. This will change the message to some common format.

b) Encryption and decryption: It signifies that sender transforms the original information to the other form and sends the resultant message over the network and vice-versa.

c) Compression and expansion: Compression decreases the number of bits contained in the information specifically in text, audio and video.
