What is the procedure to handle non-coplanar vertices?

There are two processes to handle the non-coplanar vertices one is to break the polygon into the triangles and deal.  Other is to approximate A, B and C in the plane equation. It can be done either by averaging or by projecting the polygon onto the coordinate planes.
