a) Heated metal cathode: The heat is supplied to cathode by directing the beam via a coil of wire termed as the filament within the cylindrical cathode structure.

b) Control grid: The intensity of electron beam is controlled by setting the voltage levels on control grid that is a metal cylinder which fits to the cathode.
