Parallel port and serial port are used to transfer the data in and out of the computer. In serial port transmission, only one bit is transmitted at a single time. Most serial ports on personal computers conform to the RS-232C or RS-422 standards. A parallel interface connects the external device like a printer. On PCs, parallel port utilizes a 25-pin connector (type DB-25) and is used for connecting the computers, printers and other devices which require relatively high bandwidth. It utilizes the parallel transmission of the data.
