Packet switching :

One logical message is divided into large number of packets. Every packet is transmitted to its destination independently and therefore each packet should involve the source and destination address along with its data. No permanent link is established there.

Circuit switching :

In this, permanent physical link is established between two processes who wish to communicate a. The link is assigned for the time period when the communication session last and no other process can use that particular link during that period.
