The important features of the cellular network include the capability to re-use the frequencies in order to raise both the coverage and the capacity. As explained above, the adjacent cells should use the different frequencies, though there exist no trouble with the two cells sufficiently far apart that are operating over the same frequency. The elements which calculate the frequency reuse are reuse distance and reuse factor.

The reuse distance, D is determined as:

Where,

R refers to the cell radius and

N refers to the number of cells per cluster.

Cells can also vary within the radius in range of 1 km to 30 km. The boundaries of cells may also overlap between adjacent cells and the large cells may be divided into the smaller cells. The frequency reuse factor is defined as the rate where the same frequency may be used within the network. It is 1/K, where K refers to number of cells that cannot use same frequencies for the transmission.
