Number of chambers does the bird and mammalian heart consist
Determine the number of chambers does the bird heart and the mammalian heart consists of? Regarding temperature maintenance what is the benefit of the double and complete circulation of such animals?
Expert
The bird and mammalian hearts are classified into four chambers: right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium and the left ventricle. Birds and mammals are homeothermic, that is, they control their body temperature. The four-chambered heart and double circulation give the supply of more oxygenated blood to the tissues making possible a greater metabolic rate (mostly cellular respiration rate). Part of the energy generated by the cellular respiration is utilized to maintain the body temperature.
