The bird and mammalian hearts are classified into four chambers: right atrium, right ventricle, left atrium and the left ventricle. Birds and mammals are homeothermic, that is, they control their body temperature. The four-chambered heart and double circulation give the supply of more oxygenated blood to the tissues making possible a greater metabolic rate (mostly cellular respiration rate). Part of the energy generated by the cellular respiration is utilized to maintain the body temperature.
