Hepatitis B is a disease caused by the DNA virus. The transmission is through blood (wounds, transfusions, sexual relations, accidents with contaminated material, and so forth.). The most ordinary form of disease is constant, the infected patient carries virus for life and the liver slowly suffers injuries which can lead to cirrhosis or even to the hepatic cancer. Another form of disease is sensitive, sometimes fulminating, with symptoms same to those of hepatitis A however more severe and sometimes poisonous. There are persons which are asymptomatic carriers of virus. The level of hepatic injury is assessed through blood tests of hepatic enzymes and through hepatic biopsy (removal of small samples of tissue to be examined under microscope). Viral replication can be estimated by the PCR (polymerase chain reaction).
