A Mambot is small, task-oriented function which intercepts content before this is displayed and manipulates it in some way. Joomla! provides a many Mambots in the core distribution, for example WYSIWYG editors, however there are various other mambots obtainable for specific tasks.

Plugins: The new name for mambots. Additionally, some 3rd party components, modules and mambots themselves encompass plugins.
