Diseases which are caused through the action of immune system of the individual are known as auto-immune diseases. The auto-immune diseases occurs whenever the immune system forms antibodies or defence cells which attack tissues, cells and organs of its own body. The attacked cells or the tissues are wrongly identified as the antigens through the immune system. Rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus, pemphigus, vitiligo, type I diabetes mellitus, Crohn's disease which is chronic inflammation of gut, myasthenia gravis, Hashimoto's disease, Graves disease, and so on. are all examples of the autoimmune diseases.
