High starting current in DC motor
Provide the explanation explaining the reason for high starting current in the DC motor?
Expert
In DC motors, Voltage equation is V=Eb-IaRa (where V=Terminal voltage, Eb = Back emf in Motor, Ia = Armature current, Ra = Armature resistance). In starting, Eb is zero. Thus, V=IaRa, Ia = V/Ra, here Ra is too less i.e, Ia will become extremely large.
