Glucagon increases glycemia and insulin decreases it. They are antagonistic pancreatic hormones. Glucagon acts stimulating glycogenolysis and hence, forming the glucose from the glycogen breaking. Insulin refers to the hormone which is accountable for the entrance of glucose from the blood into the cells. When glycemia is low, such as, during fasting, glucagon is liberated and insulin is restrained. Whenever, the glycemia is high, as after meals, there occurs the inhibition of glucagon and more liberation of the insulin.
