The iris works like the diaphragm of photographic camera because it has muscles which contract or relax varying pupil diameter. When the luminous intensity heightens parasympathetic nervous system commands the contraction of pupil; when there is shortage of light sympathetic nervous system stimulates the dilation of pupils. These movements depend upon muscles of iris.
