Flesh part of fruits

Whether fruits always the flesh part of ‘fruits’? Is edible part of the onion is a fruit?

In some of the so-called fruits, the flesh part is not the actual fruit. Such as, the flesh part of strawberry is not the fruit. Generally, fruits are the small hard dots over the surface of the strawberry. Another example: flesh part of the cashew is not the fruit. The fruit is the nut. The edible part of onion is known as the stem of the plant and not the fruit.
