In the flower ovary there are megasporangia enclosed by tegument containing a small opening, micropyle. In megasporangium there is the megasporocyte, or megaspore mother cell, which undergoes meiosis forming four megaspores of which three moves back and only one is functional. Functional megaspore undergoes (three) mitosis generating eight cells that as a whole form embryonic sac.
