Expert
A block cipher transforms the fixed-length block of plaintext data in the block of the ciphertext data of same length. This transformation occurs under the action of a user-provided secret key. Decryption is carried out by applying the reverse transformation to ciphertext block using same secret key. The fixed length is called block size, and for many block ciphers, block size is 64 bits.
