Systole and diastole can be defined as two stages in which the cardiac cycle is divided.
a) Systole refers to the stage when contraction of the ventricular muscle fibers happens and ventricles are emptied.
b) Diastole refers to the stage of cardiac cycle when the ventricular muscle fibers bulge and the ventricles gets filled with blood.
