1. All-or-none string clipping - if all of the string is inside a clip window, to remain it or else discards.

2. All-or-none character clipping – discard only individuals characters which are not completely within window. Whichever character that moreover overlaps or is outside a window boundary is clipped.

3. Individual characters – Clip off parts of character which are outside the window if an individual character partly covered a clip window boundary.
