Is the shortest distance between any 2 specified nodes is given by minimum spanning tree?

The Minimal spanning tree guarantees that the whole weight of the tree is kept at its minimum. But it doesn't indicate that the distance will be minimum among any two nodes involved in the minimum-spanning tree.
