The main approaches to job design are described below:
1. Classical Approach: It was developed by F.W. Taylor and his associates and it is also known as engineering approach. The principles of scientific management shaped the basis for designing jobs in the Organizations. These values focus on standardizing, planning and improving human effort at the operative level in order to maximize output.
2. Behavioral Approach: Elton Mayo, Frederick Herzberg and other human relations expert’s finding led to looking out for substitutive ways of designing jobs to avoid the functional problems of simplification and standardization.
