Metagenesis is type of life cycle in that there are two dissimilar forms of individuals of same species, one haploid and other diploid. In one of these stages gametogenesis takes place and fecundated gametes give birth to zygote that then develops in the other form. Metagenesis is also recognized as alternation of generations or as diplobiont life cycle. (Every plant for example, presents metagenesis.)
