In relational data model, for normalization reasons, quarter lookup, year lookup, week lookup, and month lookups are not merged as single table. In dimensional data modeling (star schema), these tables would be merged as single table named as TIME DIMENSION for slicing and performance data.
This dimension assists to find out the sales completed on weekly, date, yearly and monthly basis. We can have a trend analysis through comparing this year sales with the preceding year or this week sales with the preceding week.
