Phellogen , also named as cork cambium, is the meristematic plant tissue liable for formation of the periderm (covering of stem, roots and shoots). The inner side of phellogen layer forms phelloderm and its outer side forms cork (suber). The suber secretes suberin, an impermeable substance which impregnates tissue.
