Define Product Design Specification

Product Design Specification: Once the basic idea for a product has been made, the next step is to create a product design specification, or PDS. This document must be as comprehensive and as detailed as possible as it forms the basis of all the work that is to follow. The PDS states the „boundary conditions? within which the design must be created. Some examples of the factors in a PDS are:

  • Conformance to standards and specifications
  • Product appearance
  • Product performance
  • Life expectancy
  • Maintenance
  • Working environment
  • Quantity
  • Size and weight
  • Ergonomics
  • Safety
