In the color displays, 24 bits per pixel are generally used, in which 8 bits specifies the 256 level for each color. It is essential to read 24- bit for each of pixel from the frame buffer. This is generally very time consuming. In order to avoid this, video controller uses the look up table in order to store several entries to pixel the values in RGB format. This look up table is generally termed as the colour table.
