Captive gateways in Routed Mode or in Bridged Mode
Captive gateways can work into Routed Mode or into Bridged Mode. What does that mean?
Expert
In Routed Mode the captive gateway have to work as an IP router and it is configured as the default gateway on each of the client connected with the wireless network. For this purpose, the IP subnet for the WiFi LAN part is distinct from the subnet on the rest of the network.
Instead of this, in Bridged Mode the gateway is a layer 2 bridge which joins the protected LAN segment along with the rest of the network. The most clear advantages of this method is that clients can contain the identical IP addresses independent of whether they are located on WI-FI or on the wired LAN.
