Assignment: Team Project

The class will be divided into small groups (teams) with the task of creating a new and creative technology solution to a business problem. This project is designed to bring together the various topics and components of the class (lecture and laboratory). It will run throughout the course as you will develop it in stages throughout the semester

Teams: Project teams will be formed within the first 2 weeks of class. Teams will consist of four members. All team members are expected to play an active role in the development of all parts of the project. All team members are expected to speak/present some part during the presentation.

Peer Evaluation:At the end of the semester, team members will evaluate each other in several categories: preparation, collaboration, task completion, presentation, and general contribution. Evaluations will be completed in private via online survey after the team presentation. Only the instructor will have access to the completed team evaluations.

Deliverables: The project is divided into a series ofstages. There is a deliverable due at each stage. Each deliverable is cumulative, building on the previous ones. Each completed deliverable will be returned to the student team with comments. Teams are expected to incorporate changes prior to the next project submission. It is quite feasible to have points taken off for the same mistake if the mistake is not corrected by the next submission date. Each project stage is a section in the report (see report sections on next page).

The report submission is the culmination of all previous deliverables and is expected to be comprehensive and thorough. It should contain each section due throughout the semester in the order described below. The written paper should be approximately 22-30 single-spaced pages with title page, table of contents, table of figures, appendices and references pages not inclusive. Students will use MLA style for all papers.

One team member is responsible for providing the file with the team presentation on the presentation date. If the person is late, the entire team receives a failing mark for the presentation. Be on time! For consistency, all teams must use official Microsoft PowerPoint for presentations. We cannot assure proper loading or display if the official school version is not used.

Reports: All report sections must be well-structured, understandable and succinct. Ideas must be stated directly with proper grammar. Visualization tools such as graphs, charts, tables are encouraged. These are all components of the grade.

Presentation: The presentation should describe the problem and solution but most importantly, present a partial visual demonstration of your solution. Oral presentations will last not longer than 9 minutes. It is expected that each team will present for 8 minutes and entertain questions and answers for 1 minutes. All team members must have a speaking part in the presentation. All class members are required to stay for all presentations. It is possible that other faculty members will attend. BE PREPARED!!! Students are advised to dress appropriately for the presentation. Part of your education is preparing you for business meetings. Arriving in jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, is inappropriate. Proper business attire is recommended.

Team Project Report Outline

A. PROJECT SUMMARY

Pick a business problem.

This business problem will be the basis of all the other assignments for your team this semester.

B. PROJECT SECTION I

Research the business problem and describe your understanding of it.

Perform a thorough research investigation of how it works, impact on business (or society), and metrics or financial indicators (how you will benchmark the effectiveness of your solution) and any other research you can find. Be sure to give a thorough background of the problem and cite to appropriate articles and papers to prove the validity of your research. Also include existing solutions in the market that address this problem.

• How Big the Problem Is? Who does this affect, how and to what extent
• How It is Currently Addressed? Why these methods are inadequate
• As-Is Process Map with Explanation

C. PROJECT SECTION II

Analyze the problem and provide 3 solutions

Selecting a solution to a problem consists of evaluating all possible options. Develop three potential solutions to your problem and perform an analysis of each and its impact on your problem. While you need not fully investigate each solution, you should focus on logical business process, ease of implementation and rough potential costs. Once you have completed a quick analysis of your solutions, select the one that you believe fits best. You must describe why your solution is superior to the already existing competing solutions in the marketplace (i.e.: efficiency, ease of use, cost, etc). Use facts and research to support your conclusion.

• Why the Solution Selected is Superior to Current Available Solutions
• Revised Process Map with Explanation of Differences
• What are the information requirements of your solution?
• What will your system do?
• What needs to be stored? For how long? How big is it generally?
• What needs to be communicated? To who? Where?
• What types of IT Systems are Required and Why

D. PROJECT SECTION III

Implement a solution.

Be sure to debate the different options available. You should specifically find and define the particular product you will use. (i.e.: if it is a touchpad, who is the manufacturer, how much it is and how does it work and integrate). Project the financial impact of your idea (breakeven analysis) for at least three timeframes (i.e.: one, two and three years after launch).

• Relational database diagram and plan
• Network diagram and plan
• Pricing and Return on Investment
• Startup, Development and Ongoing Revenue and Costs
• 5-Year Plan
• How You Will Implement and Get People to Use It
• Contingency and Disaster Recovery Plan
• Ethical Considerations and Issues

E. PROJECT SECTION IV

Visualize solution

While it would be impractical to build an entire solution with the skills from this class and the time provided, find a way to visually demonstrate how your solution might work and be able to demonstrate it during the live presentation. Potential prototypes may be screen designs, web pages, and working Access databases

Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:

1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.

2. The response also include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

3. Also Include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
