The coaching case study must include the following sections

Describe the Coaching sessions

Start with an introduction - what you are going to discuss in this paper - this is known as ‘signposting the reader' and finish with a conclusion - a synopsis of what you have discussed. In the middle is the body of the of the paper which needs to comprise three parts.

The coaching case study must include the following sections: Description of the Coaching Sessions (which will include reference to coaching theory and research and will be descriptive), Assessment of Coaching Skills, and Discussion which will also reference coaching theory and research and will be analytical).

Part 1. Describe the Coaching Sessions

This section is worth 25% so is worth a reasonable depth of discussion but not as much as the third section - this section is descriptive and the third section is an analysis. Provide a concise overview of two (2) of your coaching sessions: the content and process of the sessions, and the coaching action plan. Choose your most and least effective coaching sessions. In this section make sure that you relate your coaching to methodologies, theories, models and skills taught in class - support your description with evidence from relevant literature for your approach, what you did and how it went. What coaching theories or guidelines support your approach? What research reported in the literature demonstrates similar or different experiences to your own?

Part 2. Coaching Skills Self-assessment

Use the 5 Goal-focused coaching competencies Grant & Cavanagh (2007) (to self-assess your coaching skills). Refer to the paper - Grant, AM & Cavanagh, MJ 2007, ‘The goal-focused coaching skills questionnaire: preliminary findings', Social Behavior and Personality, vol.35, no.6, pp.751-760 which presents the five competencies as measured by the 12 skills that you have been using in the classroom in your coaching triad practice.

Identify additional sources of evidence that can be used to demonstrate your coaching skills - what else can you use as evidence of your demonstrated coaching skills? Feedback from coachee for e.g.?. Make sure that you compare coaching skills across coaching sessions.

Part 3. General Discussion

This section is worth 40% so needs a bit more in depth discussion. This is the part where you analyse and synthesise. The first section was a description and in this section you need to analyse what happened and pull together your analysis with the literature. Discuss your two cases, along with the coaching skills and processes you used. Discuss what worked well and how you managed to achieve this. Discuss how the coaching could be improved. Discuss what you have learnt as a result of this experience and how this is useful in your coaching practice. Demonstrate the ability to relate coaching to the taught content and relevant literature - so, again, Propose an action plan for your on-going development of coaching skills.
