Assignment: Psychology Abstract
The abstract write-up is a condensed summary of an article focusing on specific article content. For the Quarter 2 abstract, you must use an article related to one of the main focus areas (Sensation & Perception, Consciousness, Learning, Cognition). Be sure to use the following format.
Component 1: PROBLEM STATEMENT / OBJECTIVE: State the core issue, research question, objective of the research.
• What problem is being addressed / solved? What is the focus of the article?
Component 2: METHODS / APPROACH: Describe the research method design (descriptive, correlational, experimental), including the population, sample size, and specific methodology (observation, survey, experiment) used to collect data. Also identify important individuals involved in this research.
• What is the research / experiment? Who is leading / conducting this research?
Component 3: RESULTS: Explain the results of the research.
• What discoveries have been made or conclusions have been reached as a result of this research? What has been learned as a result of this work?
Component 4: CONCLUSIONS: State implications of this research.
• Why is this work important? How can this work be beneficial moving forward?
Abstracts should be done in formal writing. They should be written in paragraph format. Leave yourself and your audience out of the abstract: No "I", "Me", "You", "Us", "We", "Our", etc. references. Avoid contractions in formal writing (ie - do not instead of don't). Your abstract should be grammar and spell checked.
While you should aim for brevity, be careful not to make your summary too short. Try to summarizing each of the components of the article in a couple of sentences.
Look at abstracts in professional journals for examples of how to summarize your paper. Notice the main points that the authors chose to mention in the abstract. Use these examples as a guide when choosing the main ideas in your own abstract.
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also include a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also Include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
